The Philly Cup 2025, hosted by Street Soccer USA (SSUSA) on August 16–17 at Eakins Oval, brought together communities from across Philadelphia, New York, and the United Kingdom for two unforgettable days of soccer, family, and celebration. Among the highlights was the powerful participation of Feliz Filadelfia, whose youth, families, and supporters embodied the very spirit of the tournament.

Feliz Filadelfia entered teams in the 12-under and 10-under divisions. From the opening whistle, Feliz Filadelfia players took the field with determination and joy, while parents, friends, and neighbors filled the sidelines with energy and encouragement. Their presence showcased the true meaning of grassroots soccer: community, belonging, and connection.

This was more than just a weekend tournament, it was a movement,” said Tsega “Coach Taz” McDermott, Director of Street Soccer USA – Philadelphia. “Feliz Filadelfia reminded us that when families and communities show up, the impact extends far beyond the game itself.”

For Feliz Filadelfia, the Philly Cup represented an opportunity to highlight the hard work of local Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) that are building access to the game for every young person. The tournament underscored the role of soccer as a powerful tool for community building, cultural exchange, and youth development.

Seeing our kids out there playing, supported by their families and community, was inspiring,” said Dan Gordon, Feliz Filadelfia’s Board Chair. “The Philly Cup showed that soccer is not just about competition, it’s about pride, unity, and creating opportunities that last long after the final whistle.”

The Philly Cup 2025 featured over 600 participants, 38 local CBOs, and approximately 2,500 attendees, which is a testament to the unifying power of soccer and the incredible impact of community-driven programs.”
