Feliz Filadelfia’s Founder and President, Jose Rivera and Executive Director, Melanie Wright attended the 2022 Philadelphia Coaches Conference. Hosted by Temple University, the Philadelphia Coaches Conference brought aspiring coaches of all levels together for the purpose of professional development and growth. Rivera and Wright attended the event thanks to Feliz Filadelfia’s partnership with the Philadelphia Sports Collaborative, which served as a sponsor for the event.
The day kicked off with keynote speaker, Hall of Famer, Olympian, and Philadelphia native- Dawn Staley. Coach Staley discussed growing up in North Philly, her journey as a professional athlete, and her impactful coaching career with Temple University Women’s Basketball Coach Diane Richardson.
Coach Staley was one of several speakers who shared stories of leading a team as well as the challenges of being a coach. Rivera and Wright attended a series of educational sessions covering topics including sports equity and inclusion programming, the evolution of Title IX, the landscape for women coaches, addressing mental health for student-athletes, and how to effectively create positive coach-parent relationships. Jose Rivera noted that, “Attending the conference provided us with an opportunity to meet with other sports professionals, to share ideas, explore challenges, and seek collective solutions.”
