Feliz Filadelfia members joined a massive volunteer effort this past Saturday to remove a stockpile of used tires that had been dumped in the park over the years. The effort was organized by Tookany-Tacony Frankford Watershed Alliance (TTFW).
Volunteers formed a human chain handing up the tires from near Tacony Creek to awaiting City of Philadelphia trash trucks. The pile of tires was estimated in the thousands. By noon after three hours of work in a steady rain, the pile was gone!
Feliz Filadelfia kids also cleared brush that had been intruding into the park meadow adjoining the park dump site.
Feliz Filadelfia received a special shout-out from Mayor Cherelle Parker at the closing ceremony after the cleanup, and Feliz director Jose Rivera was one of the guest speakers.
